Join Groundwork South for a hands-on event dedicated to tackling the pesky floating pennywort! Happening on Thursday Feb 8 2024 where you will meet in the The Three Horseshoes Car Park (Overflow) to then walk to the Bulbourne River nearby to complete the survey and removal of this plant.
Starting at 10:30 AM GMT, you'll be surveying and removing the invasive floating pennywort species that threatens our local waterways. This species, originally from South America, can quickly spread throughout waterways, leading to loss of local biodiversity, increased flooding risk and Together, you'll make a positive impact on the environment and preserve the beauty of our beloved Bulbourne River, an internationally rare chalk stream.
No prior experience is necessary, so please go along for a fun-filled day of teamwork and conservation. This event will involve entering the river, and some repetitive action when removing the plant, so you must be capable of carrying out some level of manual work and able to swim. Waders will be provided for entering the river to ensure we stay dry, but please dress warmly! Be aware that facilities will be limited for the day, so please bring anything you need with you.
