The Ver Valley Society's Action Group has been awarded the Hertfordshire Rural Living Awards 2016, Environment Award by the Campaign to Protect Rural England.

The prestigious award was presented to the Group's coordinators Sue and Martin Frearson at the Awards Evening at County Hall in Hertford on the 18th October, 'in recognition of their commitment to improving the river Ver and the natural environment, making it a joy for all.’

The Ver Valley Society Action Group undertakes regular volunteer tasks on the river Ver, an important chalk stream tributary of the R. Colne, between Redbourn and the M25.

The Awards judges highlighted the impressive range of work undertaken by the group including clearance of damaging invasive plants, an on-going challenge; clearance of debris and litter; building in channel deflectors to improve the river flow and clearance of footpaths to improve access.

"We are obviously delighted with this award." said Sue Frearson. "It is much deserved recognition for all the work our passionate and committed volunteers have done to protect and conserve this special river over many years".
