The subject of river pollution has been getting attention in the National Newspapers in recent days.

On Friday 10th February, the whole of the I newspaper’s front page was devoted to an ‘exclusive’:

Raw sewage from major HS2 site pumped into green belt river

This article asked why HS2 was discharging into the already overloaded Maple Lodge sewage works and quoted two of our steering group members: Tony Booker and Paul Jennings.

On Saturday 11th February

The I newspaper’s Front Page was again dominated by the subject, they led with

Only 6% of Britain's rivers on course to be healthy by 2027 as UK’s firms pump more raw sewage

And the editorial in the I newspaper was

Save Britain’s rivers: why i and New Scientist are launching this campaign across the UK

That day the Express had a similar message.

And on Monday 13th February the Times Newspaper launched a ‘Clean it up campaign to rid Brittain’s waterways of raw sewage and pollution'.

although their front page lead was

Water firms to be spared threat of £250m fines

With two campaigns just beginning we will be watching to see if the whole complex issue of river pollution is accurately aired and practical solutions sought.
