6. Connecting People with the Colne Valley

Aim: Involve people with their local waterbodies

Water body: Colne, Frays, Misbourne, Canal
Project description

The project aimed to encourage local people to discover wildlife in the Colne Valley through events, volunteering opportunities and new educational materials.

Activities focussed on  nature reserves and country parks in the Colne Valley  Park, for which new factsheets were produced:

These included the Herts & Middlesex Wildlife Trusts reserves in the area - Stocker's Lake, Broadwater Lake, Uxbridge Alderglade and Old Park Wood; London Wildlife Trust's reserves - Frays Farm Meadows & Denham Lock Wood and Frays Island & Mabey's Meadow; London Borough of Hillingdon's  Little Britian Lake, and Bucks County Council's Denham Country Park.

The project led a number of guided walks, species identification workshops, children's activities and promoted the Colne Valley through talks to local community groups and attending local community events.

Volunteers have been recruited to help us look after our nature reserves in the Colne Valley and help us survey for different species such as water voles, butterflies and bats.
