20. Scotsbridge Mill, river restoration

Aims: Improve wildlife corridors; Manage flow

Project description

The River Chess at Scotsbridge Mill suffers from a range of problems linked to when the channel was redirected to power the mill.

Problems include silt accumulation, prevention of fish passage and a risk of channel breaching from the perched section of the river. This project aims to improve the resilience, physical characteristics and habitat quality of this stretch of the Chess, enabling fish passage, reducing flood risk and improving the public green space along the river. The current phase will establish the best way to achieve these aims and build support for future implementation.
