Last year approximately eight thousand fish were stocked into the river Colne, consisting of Chub, Barbel, Roach, Dace and Bream. These were stocked in four locations throughout the upper and middle

These fish are stocked according to a prioritisation that changes annually, dependant on events and occurrences that occur during the course of the year.
Generally the EA prioritise sites where the fish population has been impacted or reduced, through events such as pollution impacts or habitat changes, to encourage a recovery in the population.
They always try to tie in stocking fish with projects designed to improve the environment or habitat for fish, as it is important to realise that stocking alone is unlikely to address the underlying problems that may have resulted in low number of fish. This year approximately eight thousand fish were stocked into the river Colne, consisting of Chub, Barbel, Roach, Dace and Bream. These were stocked in four locations throughout the upper and middle reaches of the Colne, from Watford through to Denham, In response to events such as the fish mortality that occurred on the Colne through Watford this summer.
